LED modules: the right LED lighting solution for your application – energy-efficient and long-lasting
Structural design of LED modules

Single elements of a LED module
LED modules consist of one or more single LEDs mounted on a rigid or flexible board (printed circuit board) in various geometrical arrangements. OSRAM offers LED modules in various shapes and sizes.

Example: The graph shows a LINEARlight Flex module. Here, a linear, flexible PCBs is used which can be cut into different lengths. The electronic components allow operation at constant voltage of 24 Volt.
Components of a complete LED module
Completel LED modules consist of LED modules, various covers as well as integrated heat sinks. Depending on requirements, there are the covers in different models: diffuse, clear, prismatic or with optics.
Complete LED module in detail
It is also possible from the extensive accessory an individual complete module to assemble. In this example, the entire module consists of the main components heatsinks, LED module, optics and optical carrier with end caps. The lenses are available in various beam angles.
The LINEARlight Flex Protects are a special product. The flexible linear LED strips especially from OSRAM are potted in high-performance silicones. Thus the entire system, including the Plug and Play CONNECTsystem Protect and a control gear, have a high IP protection. This makes the modules also suited for outdoor applications. These modules can also be cut to different lengths.
Standardized LED modules:
A special variant of conventional LED modules are OSRAM’s light engines. Thanks to fixed interfaces, they are the ideal platform for future-proof developments. That is because the individual light engines’ mechanical and optical parameters remain constant.

LED lighting technology
MacAdam ellipses (SDCM): measurement of the similarity between two color temperatures or colors.
White LED modules from the brand manufacturer
White light in refined quality for applications with the highest requirements of color homogeneity. FineWhite modules offer homogeneity that meets the recognized quality standards for fluorescent tubes.
Fine Binning guarantees the impression of unity within certain color temperatures.
OSRAM’s Fine Binning is based on three SDCMs (MacAdam ellipses).
Application examples of FineWHITE modules
- Illuminating white surfaces, for example, wall-washer or multiple spotlights
- Backlighting with minimal overall depth and diffuse covers
- Accent or decorative lighting, such as coves and ceiling cutouts.
LED modules for special applications
Colormix – multicolored LEDs
The light colors of individual light-emitting diodes (especially in the primary colors of red, green and blue) may be combined with other colors. OSRAM offers various “Colormix” LED modules equipped, on the one hand, with a RGB Multichip and, on the other hand, with individual high-flux color LEDs.
ESD-conform handling of LED modules
As electronic assemblies, both semiconductors and LED modules are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. Instructions for proper use and for prevention of damage because of electrostatic discharge can be found in the ESD application note and in the product documentation (data sheets and instruction leaflets).
